Residencies 2020

With Sun reaching his summer heights over the ancient granite Tors of Dartmoor, our doors will be opening to those who are called to offering. With Oak giving way to Holly King, there is place at our hearth for those who’s buzzard eyes spy gorse and hawthorn lonely for a dance, who’s stoat hands long to meld gifts for delivery into belly earth, who’s fox ears prick to the pools that call for honied words.

Root yourself at Routrundle - a Devon longhouse among Tors and footprints of Bronze Age settlements, among winding rivers, gnarled forests, and the open moor who stretches her hearty limbs from our doorstep.

If you are an artist, writer, musician, or something altogether different but wildly creative who would like to join us, please send a brief proposal introducing yourself, your intentions for your time here, and a portfolio or artist website to:

We have 3 dwellings available, all with log burners and double bed - you may apply as an individual or two people together (couple/friends/artistic-collaboration). We are open to small families applying so do get in touch to talk about this possibility.

Alongside your individual dwelling, you will have access to a communal studio space, kitchen, and living area, amidst 2 1/2 acres of private land within the Dartmoor National Park (our nearest neighbour is a mile away!). We will host a weekly informal gathering where we can share our ongoing works in the spirit of generosity and celebration. At the end of the residency we will host a private exhibition/performance night at Routrundle to wrap up our time together. Expect campfires, dips in moorland river pools, stargazing and moonlight hikes.

At Routrundle we aim never to exclude through our prices, so we set a guide price. If you feel called to apply but the guide price is unrealistic for you then please get in touch about a subsidised fee (we also consider work exchange or other alternative forms of exchange). Likewise, if you feel called to pay above the guide price (either before or after your stay) let us know and the excess will go towards subsidising others.

Our Second Open call is for late summer 2020. We are open between August 3rd – September 13th for flexible residency bookings of a minimum stay of 3 weeks. As summer reaches a balmy end, stay with us and work on whatever you feel called to in your practice. The shadows will be lengthening on the sun drunk moor, the night skies crisp and heavy with stars - Dartmoor will take you by an offered hand to where you need to be.
